Tips Asas Untuk Pembentangan Akhir FYP

Prinsip Asas

- Tunjukkan kepada pemeriksa dan buat mereka memahami dengan jelas apa yang anda telah dicapai sepanjang semester.
- Tunjukkan kepada pemeriksa bahawa anda mengetahui dengan baik apa yang telah anda lakukan .
- Pastikan pemeriksa gembira.

Slaid

- Pastikan hanya maklumat yang perlu ditunjukkan dalam pada slaid. Sekurang-kurangnya, tidak lebih daripada 6 baris ayat setiap slaid .
- Gunakan angka jika perlu.
- Pastikan tidak menggunakan terlalu banyak jenis font, dua font sudah memadai(satu untuk header , satu untuk kandungan).
- Simpan satu set slaid sebagai salinan. Bagi kandungan yang perlu dipotong daripada pembentangan utama , sediakan salinan juga. Jika pemeriksa tanya mengenainya, barulah tunjukkan kepada mereka.
- Periksa kesilapan menaip anda . Slaid yang teruk akan meninggalkan 'bad impression'.
- Beri salinan fotostat slaid anda kepada pemeriksa. Ia amat berguna jika mereka mahu merujuk kembali kepada slaid anda yang terdahulu.

Kandungan

- Pastikan anda jelas menerangkan apa yang telah lakukan. Pastikan anda jelas mengenai pencapaian dan sumbangan anda. Senaraikan sumbangan individu yang telah membantu atau menjadi rujukan anda di dalam slaid.
- Senaraikan cabaran teknikal yang anda hadapi. Kadang-kadang pemeriksa tidak menghargai projek anda, tetapi sebenarnya anda telah bekerja keras beberapa bulan untuk menyiapkannya. Penyenaraian cabaran akan membuat pemeriksa menghargai apa yang anda telah capai.
- Jangan menganggap bahawa pemeriksa membaca laporan anda. Jadi, present selengkap-lengkapnya terutamanya maklumat penting.
- Beritahu pemeriksa dengan jelas jika anda tidak menyiapkan beberapa bahagian projek kerana kekangan masa.
- Pastikan pembentangan projek anda berorientasikan teknikal dan akademik  sebanyak mungkin . Tunjukkan apa yang telah dipelajari selama 4/5 tahun ini dan bagaimana anda menggunakannya dalam projek anda.

Pembentangan

- Tiada pemeriksa suka perbentangan yang lebih had masa , jadi sila berlatih terlebih dahulu.
- Bersedia untuk mengurangkan beberapa kandungan jika perkara yang tidak dijangka berlaku atau kekurangan masa.

Soal Jawab

- Dengar dengan teliti kepada soalan yang diajukan . Jika anda tidak faham soalan , minta pemeriksa ulang semula soalan.
- Jawab terus kepada soalan yang diajukan.
- Jika anda tidak tahu jawapannya, katakan anda tidak tahu . Jangan menokok tambah. ( Confucius berkata: Ilmu adalah : tahu apa yang anda tahu , dan tahu apa yang anda tidak tahu)

General FYP Tips for Final Presentation

Basic Principles

- Show the examiners, and make them understand, clearly what you have achieved over the semesters.
- Demonstrate to the examiners that you know very well what you have done.
- Keep the examiners happy.

Slides

- Keep only necessary words on the slides. A general rule of thumb is no more than 6 lines per slide.
- Use figures whenever possible.
- Keep the variety of fonts to minimal. I generally use two fonts at most (one for headers, one for body).
- Keep a set of backup slides. For the content that you have to cut from the main presentation, prepare slides for them as well, but keep them as backup. If the examiners asked about it, you can pull up the backup slides and show them.
- Check for typos. Badly prepared slides leave bad impression.
- Give handouts of your slides to the examiners. It is useful if they want to refer back to your previous slides.

Content

- Make sure you explicitly say what you have done. Often, you built on top of other’s code, or work with another students on the project, or use someone else’s algorithms. Be very clear about your achievements and contributions. A slide listing your individual contributions is a must.
- It is always good to list the technical challenges you faced. Sometimes examiners may not appreciate your project, but in fact it may take a few months of hard work. Listing the challenges would make the examiners appreciate what you have achieved.
- Do not assume that your examiners read your report. So do not leave out important things from the presentation.
- Tell the examiners explicitly if you leave some parts of the project out from the presentation due to time constraints.
- Keep the presentation of your project technical and academic-oriented as much as possible. This presentation is the pinnacle of your 4/5 years of bachelor education. Show off what you have learnt and how you applied them in your project.

Presenting

- No examiner likes presentation that goes over time, so please practice and time yourself, and keep your presentation within the allocated time period.
- Be adaptive in your presentation, prepare to cut some content if unexpected things happen and you are out of time. Mentally prepare which part of your presentation is important (can score points with examiners) and which part is optional (can refer examiners to the report).

Answering Questions

- Listen carefully to the questions. If you do not understand the questions, ask the examiners to rephrase the question.
- Answer directly to the point of the questions.
- If you do not know the answer, just say you don’t know. Do not smoke. (Confucius said: Knowledge is: know what you know, and know what you do not know)

A Few Tips on Getting Started your FYP  for Diploma/ Bachelor Degree Students

First of all, start thinking about your project started a year before FYP . Define your project platform . Read a lot of paper presentations online to get more ideas. The best way of doing this project is selected topics related to something you interested . Many people will choose the technology and think about the idea . Do not do that . First, think about your interest that will be a brilliant idea, get the logic, the design of the project and then select the technology for the project. Also make sure that, the chosen technology is not beyond our capability .

The best time to plan FYP is one semester earlier from final semester. Ask an opinion from a senior who was doing their FYP at that time. Seek an advice and help from them . Learn tips for doing FYP .
